Here are three killer fat shakes to fire up your fat burn. Nutrition science recognises that fuelling with good fats increases your body’s ability to oxidise/use your stored fat for energy. A fat burning breakfast is the key to firing up your fat burning potential. Think of your food as a chemical message, telling your body what you want to burn. With this in mind, let’s fire up your fat burn with my fat burning shake recipes.
Now, I am a huge fan of eating whole, fresh food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, but there are times when a nutritional shake can offer something special. If you do not have time in the morning or you are up too early to stomach food, a shake can be made in minutes and carried with you. As pictured, I use the brilliant Promixx 2.0 Vortex mixer every day at home and on the go. It is a great way to make your shake or to store the ingredients until you are ready to mix and drink. It is a lot more convenient than having to muck about with a big old, messy blender every time.
99% of so called “healthy” shake or smoothy recipes are sweet and often jam packed with sugars and sweeteners. So, I make recipes like these that contain nothing but good stuff.
Basic Recipe
2-300ml your choice of milk
Aprox. 1 tbsp Coconut Oil
Aprox. 1 tbsp Walnut Oil
Aprox. 1 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Add a combination of the magical ingredients featured below.
The base of each of my shakes is full fat milk and you can use nut milks or something like Rebel Kitchen Mylk. To this I add olive oil, walnut oil and coconut oil. This combination of fats gives you a balance of monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and saturated fats providing a full spectrum of healthy fatty acids. Around three tablespoons of total fats provides a healthy, satisfying energy boost. You may like to work up to this level as some people can experience mild stomach upset with unusually high fat meals.
Try these three functional fat shakes:
Cinnamon, Turmeric and Cacao
Raw Organic Cacao is a great daily source of vital magnesium, potassium, iron and copper and improves your insulin sensitivity. Cinnamon is naturally uplifting and stimulating and also makes you more sensitive to insulin. I use Organic Ceylon Cinnamon from Coconut Merchant as the Ceylon variety is “true” cinnamon of the highest quality providing maximum goodness. Turmeric contains curcuminoids that are great for fighting inflammation and oxidative stress. I use Coconut Merchant Organic Turmeric for its superior curcuminoid content. I lean more towards coconut oil with a little less olive and walnut oil for this one.
I use 2 tsp Cacao, level tsp Cinnamon, 1/3 tsp Turmeric.
Moringa and Chlorella
Moringa powder from Coconut Merchant is a superb natural multi vitamin, a little a day is preferable to popping pharmaceutical pills that often contain synthetic vitamins. and a liver detoxifying Iron and B12 combo. Chlorella is an algae providing protein and amino acids and is famed for supporting liver detoxification. Chlorella has a strong taste of the sea, so use little and often and make walnut oil your main fat for superior flavour.
I use level teaspoon Moringa, 1/3 tsp Chlorella
Beetroot
Performance boosting nitrate delivery for that race day PB. Organic Beetroot powder gives you potassium, magnesium and iron and is supports healthy blood pressure as well as muscle function, particularly in intense efforts. Equal parts walnut, olive and coconut oil are my preference for this powerful pink drink.
I use 1 tsp Beetroot.
By all means put your own twist on these combinations for a custom shake. A favourite of mine is beetroot and cacao for a fat fuelled, cramp busting, super charged mountain climbing shake. Let me know in the comments below what you think and if you have any recipe favourites of your own to share.
These sound awesome! Finally smoothies that I can drink! Can’t wait to give them a try 😃
